Canada is hoping to get through its massive visa backlog of 2.7 million applications by the end of the year. In 2022, there has been a 55% surge in visa applications compared to 2019, and that has added to the backlog.
Despite the unprecedented surge, Canada hopes to get back to normal processing times by end of 2022, the country’s high commissioner to India, Cameron MacKay has said.
Indians are numero uno applicants in every category of Canadian visas, including student, tourist and business, as well as work permits and permanent residence applications. “We process roughly 10,000 visas a week for Indian nationals and that is not fast enough,” he said.
